As many of us pack away those holiday decorations, multi Dove Award winning CCM band Tenth Avenue North are hard at work on a new Christmas album. Speaking with us backstage at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh this past weekend, front man Mike Donehey shared that the group had just wrapped up a writing session.

The new record is tentatively titled Decade The Halls, and likely bears some resemblance to the group’s show-stopping set on the 2015 K-LOVE Christmas Tour, which featured altered arrangements and lyrics to tunes from the 1920s, ’30s, ’40s all the way through to present day, along with a slew of awesome costume changes.

“We had the idea to do an album before we got asked to do the K-LOVE Christmas shows. We didn’t have the record recorded but we said we should try it out,” Donehey explained. “We were supposed to do it 1-2 years ago but life was too busy, so we are trying to make use of our time on Winter Jam and record.”

When asked about the progress of this likely late 2017 release, Mike added, “We have all the genres picked out, and we’ve got almost all the songs picked out. Today we were working on the ‘20s and the ‘30s.” He hinted that the popular Christmas carol Good King Wenceslas in particular was in the running for a spot on the new record.

Much more to come on this project in the months ahead. Stay tuned later this week to read our full interview with Mike Donehey where he talks about their latest release, Followers, and what this year’s Winter Jam experience has been like.
