Matthew West is slated to drop his highly anticipated double album, My Story Your Glory, on February 17. The first half of the album features West’s familiar storytelling and songwriting abilities while the back half of the album has more of a worship feel that could be used in corporate church settings. This impressive twenty-two track album points to the authenticity of West’s testimony and musicianship, while also providing new sounds from West that his listeners haven’t necessarily heard before.
The title track, “My Story Your Glory” is upbeat, fresh, and energetic. This song perfectly encapsulates what fans have come to love from West’s music. Throughout his career, West has taken stories and put them into songs that have gone on to become hits on Christian radio and impact countless listeners. “My Story Your Glory” helps remind us of our own personal testimonies and that the Lord is using the good times and the bad times for His glory.
“Praise The Lord” is one of the songs on the latter half of the album that features the worship sound. This is a tribute to the popular hymn “To God Be The Glory.” With a modern and energetic sound, West showcases his ability to release worship music that can be used for corporate worship settings. The message of this song fits perfectly within the overall theme of the album, which is glorifying the Lord through our own personal stories and testimonies.
Back on the front half of the album, “What A Day” is energetic, featuring a choir behind West’s vocals. This song will have you dancing and singing along while serving as a reminder to believers of the Lord’s second coming.
“You Changed My Name” starts with a guitar picking softly and a synth keyboard. The message of this song talks about how through the power of Jesus, we are a new creation. This song has ties to West’s hit song, “Hello, My Name Is” through the theme and message, but has more of a worship style to it, which portrays West’s versatility in the CCM genre.
Matthew West continues to write and release stellar Christian music. While keeping true to his storyteller songwriting sound, West has incorporated a worship feel as well with his new album, My Story Your Glory. This collection is an excellent addition to West’s discography, so be sure to pre-save/pre-add now!
