Grammy Award-winning Hillsong Worship has released their latest album, These Same Skies, worldwide. Recorded in Orange County, California, the live album captures worship from well-known Hillsong Worship leaders Brooke Ligertwood, Reuben Morgan, Benjamin Hastings, Aodhan King, Chris Davenport, and their newest addition, Mi-kaisha Rose. Prompted by the Gospel of Matthew and the setting of the Sermon on the Mount, the 11 track album, preceded by singles ‘That’s the Power”, ‘Hope of the Ages”, and “Never Walk Alone”, emphasizes the magnitude of God’s faithfulness, goodness, and intentionality in our lives.
A standout track on These Same Skies is “Surrounds Me” (feat. Mi-kaisha Rose). The sweet melodic line from an electric guitar, and compelling lyrics, particularly in the chorus and bridge, make this a perfect worship song to declare His goodness while listening in the car or a Sunday morning church context.
Another notable track is one of the album’s lead singles, “Never Walk Alone” (feat. Mi-Kaisha Rose). The chorus is beautifully written to remind the listener of the faithfulness of God throughout their lives. The lyrics such as “I have never walked alone, I’ve never been abandoned, You are my inheritance, You are my strength and shield” are reminiscent of Psalm 16 and Psalm 23.
Other standout tracks include “Remember”, especially its bridge, and the completely spontaneous “Waiting”. Overall, the sounds and lyrics of this new album grant signature Hillsong Worship yet with fresh melodies. After listening, one will feel encouraged and stirred to believe that their story is not yet finished because He is not finished. Just like the reprise of “That’s the Power” states, “If there’s no miracle, then You’re not finished”. Hillsong Worship’s These Same Skies reminds us that under the skies we live under, He’s still doing what only what He can do – making something good out of us.
