Singer, songwriter and worship leader Patrick Mayberry signed to Centricity Music in 2020 and released his debut label single “Breakthrough Miracle Power” in December. Signed to the publishing wing of the company, Centricity Publishing, in 2018, Mayberry quickly established a penchant for connecting his songs with artists like North Point Worship, David Leonard, Mack Brock, Chris Renzema, David Dunn, Jonny Diaz, Joel Vaughn and others. His songs have also garnered major sync placements with T-Mobile, NBA, NBC TODAY and more. Now the songwriter and worship leader steps out to become the newest member of the Centricity Music family of artists. In a full circle moment, after finishing “Breakthrough Miracle Power” with Bede Benjamin-Korporaal (Hillsong Young & Free), Mayberry’s demo ended up in the hands of the team at Passion, who instantly fell in love with the vulnerable, pleading lyric. Passion’s Kristian Stanfill and Mayberry then rewrote the song’s bridge, and Stanfill is routinely leading it at Atlanta’s Passion City Church. In this TCB Exclusive, Mayberry reflects on the personal events that inspired “Breakthrough Miracle Power,” listener reaction and his hope for the song.
Congratulations on the recent release of your debut single titled “Breakthrough Miracle Power” in December! Can you share the inspiration behind the title and cover art?
This song is a faith growing song! I was in a season where I desperately needed God to show up in some Big ways, but I just didn’t know how things were gonna pan out. It felt like I was backed into a corner. I also had some dear friends who were walking through a tough season in their marriage…and another friend who was dealing with chronic pain that was keeping him from work. As I was sitting in the midst of this season, I thought about how God did such miraculous things that I had read about all my life in the Bible – like God parting the waters and leading the Israelites out of captivity. Or in the Psalms how it says the mountains melt like wax in the presence of the Lord. I asked myself “where is that kinda power…that epic, crazy, breakthrough, miracle, kinda power.” So that’s where the song was birthed. It’s a prayer, a desperate cry, a plea for God to show up in a big way in our lives and bring that breakthrough miracle power.
Thinking back on the process of creating “Breakthrough Miracle Power” – is there a moment that stood out to you most, perhaps that solidified your resolve to release this song?
I think it has taken many years of hearing and walking with the Lord and figuring out my Faith and believing that God has given me a gift and something to say. I think this song has been a bit of the culmination and affirmation that I needed as an artist. This song was so personal to me. And to see that other people have connected with it so deeply has fueled my desire to keep being vulnerable and writing songs about God’s love for us…trusting that someone else in the world will resonate with it.
You’ve shared that the inspiration being this single is personal to you. Has the reaction from listeners been equally as personal? Can you share some of the reactions you’ve received and any impact stories that have stood out to you?
Oh man….it blows my mind that the Holy Spirit would entrust me words or truths about the Father…and other people would be impacted by it. I have been so encouraged and floored by some of the comments and stories from this song. People praying this over their hopeless situations…their marriages….their families. It’s so wild and humbling to not just be writing songs…but for God to use these songs to minister to people in a real way.
While this is your first radio single, you’ve been with Centricity Music as a songwriter for a couple of years. When you first joined did you have this vision of releasing your own music as a singer?
[Laughs.] Secretly yes! But I had no idea how it would ever happen or what it would look like. I think my plan all along has been to be faithful right where I am and work really really hard. So when this opportunity came about, I was truly over the moon!
You’ve had quite a lot of success in garnering major placements for your songs (T-Mobile, NBA, NBC TODAY, and more). What is your definition of success when you’re creating music and how does it change based on the song?
Success. What a tricky benchmark to navigate that I often get tripped up on or sidetracked by. I am learning that as cheesy as this might sound…God is my publisher. [Laughs.] So on my best day, I just wanna be kind to people, work really hard, stay authentic, and create songs that truly minister to people right where they are….all while having a ton of fun! If it all were to collapse tomorrow, I hope that I would be able to say, “Wow God, what a ride.”
What is one key message or takeaway you would want to share with others that are working to put together what their music looks and sounds like?
You’re crushing it! Keep going! Work really hard. Put the relationships first…before business. Be kind! Don’t look left or right.. for real…DONT DO IT! Keep your sights set and on exactly what Jesus has called only you to do…. and run after it like crazy throwing caution to the wind. God, our Father is wilder, crazier, deeper, more fun, and more full of surprises than you or I could ever imagine.
What are you most expectant for in 2021?
I’m so pumped to keep creating music with old friends and new friends and see what surprises God has up His sleeve! I’m swinging for the fences!!
