7eventh Time Down Bridges The Gap Between Christian Rock & Pop On 'Brand New Day'

Review Rating: 4.8/5.0

It all started in 2011 with the album Alive In You, followed by the hit single turned record, God Is On The Move in 2015. 7eventh Time Down, comprised of 3 members, has begun to gain more and more traction in the Christian music world in the past four years. Here they are again with another soon-to-be hit album that praises the Lord. On January 11th, 2019 the band released a single titled “Brand New Day”, the title track for the new album coming March 1st.

This entire album is chock full of energy filled songs with incredibly meaningful messages. For example, “The 99” references the parable in Matthew 18 where Jesus mentions “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?” This song references that passage throughout the whole song but especially in the line: “You’re searching high and low, you leave the 99 to lead me home. I can’t outrun your love, there’s no road that’s long enough.” That is so powerful because it explains the parable in song form saying that God cares about each and every individual on this earth and there is no road longer than His love. This song has a catchy beat with pure and powerful vocals.

“Brand New Day” is upbeat and everything that a title track should be; including the catchy beat, meaningful lyrics, and altogether well-rounded melody. If you are a fan of Manic Drive’s music, this song should be on the top of your playlist on March 1st. The lyrics to this song are a little more abstract, but no less meaningful: “You paint my heart like a canvas, mapping me out like an atlas, pulling me to you like a magnet. Everyone says you’re a Rembrandt, Picasso, so ahead of your time, it’s a Brand New Day with You.”

Moving a little more along the side of their Christian rock roots comes the song “Basic.” The other songs on this album air a little more on the side of pop with a little bit of rock, while this track bridges the two together perfectly. The second that you hit the play button on this song, the beat drops. Even if you tend to not like rap music, I encourage you to give this song a chance, it is easy to understand the words that are being sung and has an impactful meaning. What 7eventh Time Down is trying to convey with this song is that God’s love is not basic, we simply cannot comprehend how complex His love for us is.

Brand New Day is packed full of catchy beats and meaningful lyrics that are sure to make for a number of radio hits and life impacting moments for listeners. This album does a great job of bridging the gap between the pop and rock genres inside the CCM world. 7eventh Time Down has delivered with one of the most notable releases of 2019 so far.
