In the early morning hours on Tuesday, pure joy was palpable as Nathan Johnson, a guitar player in Josh Wilson’s band, and his wife Meg welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. Eilee Kate was born without complications around 2:40am. Meg and Nathan spent the several hours that followed holding, feeding and showering the newborn in love. Neither Nathan nor Meg got any sleep that morning as they basked in the glory of their miracle. Around 9 or 10am, however, things took a serious turn as Meg started to develop medical complications. And by 11am, the unimaginable had happened as Meg passed on from this Earth, dying from pregnancy-related complications.
"Needless to say, Nathan is devastated," Josh Wilson shared on a GoFundMe page. "There are no words for this, so I won't really say much more. Here is what I know. Nathan is a wonderful man and an amazing father. He loves his daughter dearly...How can you help? You can give time, meals, and money...Let's raise enough money for Nathan to get off the road for at least 6 months. Let's cover his bills and meals so he doesn't have to think about any of that. Let's sleep over at his house and feed sweet Eilee so Nate can rest."
No one could see what was coming next. In just 6 hours, nearly $140K was raised on GoFundMe. With an incredible outpouring of support and love from dozens of fellow CCM artists and fans alike, at last check over $300K has been raised in less than 24 hours. News of this tragedy and the support that has followed is attracting national media attention with a feature in The Tennessean.
Wilson also shared a heart-wrenching song as a tribute to Nathan.
